Hardware for the HLRS bwGRiD Cluster

Further bwGrid Hardware installations are located at Freiburg, Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, Mannheim, Tübingen und Ulm (Cooperation with Konstanz)

Architecture

The HLRS DGRID/BW-Grid Cluster platform consists of several frontend nodes for interactive access (for access details see Settings) and several compute nodes for execution of parallel programs.


Two different compute node CPU architecture types are installed:

  • IBM cell (out of production)
  • Intel Xeon 5150 (woodcrest, out of production)
  • Intel Xeon E5440 (Harpertown)
  • Intel Xeon 5472 with Nvidia Quadro FX 5800 Graphics card with 4 GB Memory and 240 CUDA GPU Cores.

Features

  • Operating System: ScientificLinux 5.5 on Intel based nodes
  • Operating System: Fedora Core8 on cell based nodes
  • Batchsystem: Torque/Moab
  • node-node interconnect: Infiniband + GigE
